Vul: they are, you're not.

W: J8 Q974 2 KQJ642

E: AK643 AJ AKJ3 A7

Methods are 2/1.  Please assume that E opens 2C in fourth seat.

Any thoughts ?

IF forced to open 2c then:

2c=3c

3s=4c

4d!=4s!

4nt!=6c!

p

2c=strong 4 loser hand with longmajor or 3 loser hand with long minor.

3c=excellent long clubs, top honors, max pass, rare bid.

3s=natural

4c=natural, maybe slammish, note went past 3nt for some reason....

4d=rkc for clubs

4s=1-4

4nt=queen of trump ask

6c=Q of C, deny outside K.

What would opener do over 4 with AKQ64 AK AKJ103 7 ?

One thing is for sure I cannot bid 4d as natural....given that this problem has never come up in 35 years...but bidding 4d as rkc has come up.....I can live with it.....:)

My best guess is I will still bid 4d as rkc for clubs.....may end up in 6nt......

Given the auction to 4, I think it's quite common for opener to be two-suited. The fact that responder has enough high cards for a positive makes it less likely that opener's 2 was based purely on high cards, and therefore more likely that he is distributional.

The third hand from this thread:

http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=26275

provides a real-life example.

I think what is popular is that a minor positive response show 6 carder with 2 of the top 3, its pretty much impossible to stop short of slam on this deal.

2C----3C

4C (extras k or A ?)-------4D no

4H Q of S?---------------4S no

5D Q of D ?--------------5H no

6C.

On a bad day 6S is going to make and 6C fail but the opposite is also true if i bid S and partner has 3 spades without the Q.

Ive really think that you need some sort of leaping michael to deal with 2 suiters after a 2C opening. These strong 5-5 happen all the time their frequency are way higher than any splinter you could have.

There is nothing more pathetic than

2C----2S (S pos)

3H----???

is a new suit natural or a cuebid agreeing H ?

2C-----3C

3S-----???

opener can have 6-5 and its going to be tough.

etc...
