jillybean
Dealer: North Vul: All Scoring: IMP ♠ 6 ♥ T943 ♦ A852 ♣ KQJ8 West North East South - 1♠ Pass ? Playing 2/1, what is your plan?
ArcLight
Bid 1NT, see what pard and opps do. I hope pard doesnt rebid 2 ♠, which I will pass. If pard bids 2♥ I bid 4♥. If pard bids a minor, I'm a bit worried as it could be just 3 cards, but I will raise it to the 3 level. Angling for NT.
Apollo81
1NT, then pass 2♠, raise hearts to game, bid 2NT over 2♦, or raise clubs to 3.
HeavyDluxe
I would've landed where Arclight was... 1NT with a design to pass 2♠, raise ♥s, and raise any minor. I'm curious why Noble would bid 2NT over ♦s, though...
ArtK78
I guess I am more conservative than others. I bid 1NT. I raise hearts to 3 - invitational - and pass 2 of a minor. I pass a 2♠ rebid. My pard is no shrinking violet. If there is a game in hearts, he is likely to bid it over my 3♥ bid.
rogerclee
I would bid 2NT over either minor bid by partner.
benlessard
and pass 2 of a minor. Trust me you cannot pass 2m. Partner can have 17 pts. Ask any strong player.

jillybean
Im surprised at all the 2nt bidders, with the ♠ misfit Im chicken and pass a minor rebid
jtfanclub
Im surprised at all the 2nt bidders, with the ♠ misfit Im chicken and pass a minor rebid You have a misfit, sure, but if your partner bids a minor odds are excellent that you have a fit there. If you can't bring yourself to bid 2NT, can you at least bid 3 of the minor? If you're going to pass 2 of a minor, you might want to consider playing semi-forcing NT, so that you can be certain that you have a fit or some strength in this situation. This is kind of funny, in combination. You recently had a 27 count where you asked how you missed slam. I said (and was argued against) that until you have good agreements on cue bids that there's nothing wrong with missing 27 hcp slams. But here you have a hand where slam is possible- your hand looks very slammish to me, you could have a combined 28 hcp, and voids are, as always, special. But you're not even going to invite game? What happened to your sense of adventure from just a week ago?

Agree with your first paragraph though.

Agree with your first paragraph though. Sorry, thinking of the 0544 hand posted earlier (with 1NT vs. 2♥ after 1♠). I'm sick, got confused. But even so, slam is certainly possible here, across a hand like: ATxxxxKQxxxAx I don't expect anybody to find that slam, but it seems a little silly to miss game! Sure, you don't have slam this time, but maybe you will next time! In the meanwhile, you get an extra 30 or so points for playing it in 2NT, so why not?
