Echognome
Will give you just some of the interesting hands and decisions I had to make yesterday. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=sakq986hk82d8cj82]133|100|Scoring: MP(1♥) - 3♦* - (3♥) - ?*Weak Jump Overcall[/hv] What now? If LHO bids 4♥ and it comes back to you, what then? matmat
Pass, 3S, 3N have merit IMO. I don't think i can take 9 tricks at NTI call 3S if that does not show ♦ support. (it shouldn't imo, but who knows what you play  ) I will crack 4H if it comes back to me. it might roll, but it might also be worth 500... HeavyDluxe
I'm hardly advanced or expert, but I've always wanted to take a crack at some of these. Pardon me for swimming in the deep end of the pool with a floatie... I'm bidding 3S. I know about partners diamonds, I want him to know about my spades. This shows my hand and maybe helps defense if they bid on. As far as what to do over 4H, I probably wouldn't double. Mainly because I stink and would chicken out. mikeh
3♠ over 3♥...their bidding increases the chance that partner has at least tolerance for spades and maybe real support... heck, one can construct hands on which 4♠ makes, so passing is too deep. And if 4♠ is a save, it will because partner has a nice hand for us, so why not involve him, which pass then 4♠ does not. Thirdly, just what kind of mp score do you expect if 3♥ is passed out? Finally, we want a spade lead against 4♥ so that we can shoot back a diamond if that seems best. No way am I doubling 4♥ on any auction. If LHO bids it, he rates to have a good club suit. gnasher
I usually play 3♠ as a fit bid, so wouldn't be able to bid even if I wanted to. If I were playing 3♠ as natural, I still wouldn't want to bid. I have a singleton in partner's suit, a non-solid suit of my own, and values in their suit. If partner has a singleton spade 3♠ could be horrible. I'd just pass and hope that partner's action had already got them too high or too low. mikegill
Seems like a normal 3♠ to me - this has lots of ways to win. I would not X 4♥.
the hog
3S. I don't see this as a problem really.
rogerclee
ez pass?
andy_h
I would also bid 3S for the reasons mikeh suggested. This is MP, NV and I have AKQ986 of spades, I am not being sold that easily!
Apollo81
Normal 3♠/pass.
benlessard
WTP 3S & pass. Selling out at 3H is awful. They are heavy favorite to make it and i have a fair shot at 3S. 3S -1 should be a very popular score on that deal. After 4H its an easy pass. I have a fair shot at getting a plus score. If they make it then they probably would have been in 4H regardless if I bid 3S or not so there is no need to double.

I'd just pass and hope that partner's action had already got them too high or too low.If you play only fit jumps as opposed to fit bids, 3s is now a possibilty. The fact that you have 3 hearts yourself increases the chances that partner may have some spades, so they may not be able to double you immediately. Selling out to a competitive 3h when you own spades seems unappealing although it could be right.
