PedroG
Hi all, Yesterday got this hand at BBO, All white IMP's. I'm south and I'm the dealer. [hv=d=s&v=n&s=sqt32hk32dtckq872]133|100|Scoring: IMPP-2♦-P-P[/hv] well not sure if I was right but decide to balance to protect partner, so i DBL and the preemptor RDBL and this come back to me... What should I do take the RDBL or play 2♦ RDL that scares the head out of me... Thank you allPedro
Finch
If you trust partner, you should pass because he wants to play 2D xx I cannot tell you if partner is worthy of that trust, however.
rogerclee
This pass should be to play. I would never leave this in if my partner were an inexperienced player.
andy_h
If I know my partner, then I definitely trust him that pass is to play. If all these BBO players are randoms and I don't know anyone, I trust the XX'er lol Maybe you can tell how experienced LHO is by their profile? cuz some don't know weak preempts and he might've intended the 2D as a strong hand so then the question is, how experienced is my partner lol
kenrexford
What's the point of having them if you don't use them?

ArcLight
What is XX? I really have my bid? What does pard do with a 3=3=4=3 hand over the XX? This is a difficult problem with random players, since the XX seems weird to me. What purpose does it serve? I think pard was releaived of bidding once the preemptor ReDoubled. I'll bet you 2 dimes XX makes.
jtfanclub
I'm a passed hand, right? Seems simple enough to me. If I weren't a passed hand (If the 2♦ bidder was dealer), I'd probably pull. I'm thinking that XX means 'I'll bet you won't leave it in if it's game'.
matmat
I might want to find out what 2♦ was before doubling the first time...
PedroG
I might want to find out what 2♦ was before doubling the first time... Alerted has weak... I DBL because someone had to have points at the table and if the partner of preemptor didn't made the move it probably is my partner... the hog
The balancing X is fine. Partner's pass of the xx indicates that she wants to play 2D redoubled, so I pass it out. This is not that uncommon a situation, but I think many players fail to understand what is required of them.It transpires on seeing all 4 hands that your partner made a very silly pass. 2S is clear with her hand. ArcLight
I still don't understand the XX.How does preemptor know his pard has anything useful? Its possible to be down 4 tricks. You can lose 1-2 diamonds, pard can have kings that are all in front of aces. I would pass the XX and let the Xer select the suit. Asd teh Xer, I would pass thinkiong pard has a decent hand. You can't just bid over 2♦ with crap in the direct seat.
Double !
Agree with senior Hog. You can't sit the XX if you trying to visualize the hands: just use the theoretic 4414 as a template, You ain't gettin' any diamond tricks. don't be surprised if you make 2S.
