Obviously 6 is a higher percentage slam, but it's matchpoints and you decided to play in 6NT on an uncontested auction, hoping for the better matchpoint result.

The lead is a small heart. What is your plan on this hand?

I am assuming that making 6NT is good enough to give us a good score.

So at the table I would probably take the simple line (the first one that comes to mind):

Win heart with K, club to dummy, spade to J. If that loses to Q, I expect a non-spade return and then fall back on 3-3 diamonds.

I am pretty sure this will be wrong.

Win the heart in hand, cash QD, cross to dummy and play off A and K of diamonds throwing two low spades. If the Diamonds break make +1. If West has long diamonds lead a spade to the K playing East for the Ace. If East has long diamonds lead a spade to the J playing For QS with East and As with West.

That's a much better idea than mine.

MIkeR's line seems slightly better than Gnasher's
  • :) If Gnasher's to K loses to A it's hard for LHO to return a -- except when dealt AQ
  • :( Similarly, MikeR's line loses if RHO has long diamonds even if RHO was dealt AQ
  • :) But MikeR's line seems slightly more likely to make an overtrick
