What do you bid?

What do you do over subsequent developments where appropriate after the opponents bid game, slam or grand slam?

Tempted to blast 6S but I guess I would just bid 5. If they bid over this then I'd make a negative slam double.

Do you play these Han? I haven't heard of negative slam doubles in a very long time, although I always thought they made some sense.

I've decided that blatant psychs don't tend to work nearly as well as people think here. As for 4 or 5 or 6 or possibly 3 it's sort of a gut thing. I like 4 here, I actually want to leave them room for blackwood so I can maybe even double 7.

Don't see any point at all in 3NT, and I expect that there are very few people who would expect a blatant psyche to work on this auction. RHO has heard his partner open the bidding, and can see the cards in his hand.

Personally I would bid 4 here, but agree that any of 4, 5 or 6 are perfectly reasonable alternatives.

I don't understand what these 6S bidders are thinking, partner hasn't preempted...his hand can be quite good. They might not even have a game, though that is unlikely, it's certainly likely that they can't make a slam and/or that you can buy it below 6S.

I also don't understand what the 3N bidders are thinking, what is the goal of the 3N bid to confuse the opps? They opened and made a 2/1 and have short spades, I have a feeling they won't be confused.

Bidding 4 vs 5 is a tough decision, I would love to bid 4 and have LHO bid something and partner double. But I would hate to bid 4 and have LHO bid blackwood or raise and then have his partner cuebid 5S or something. Overall I like 5 a little bit better.

I think 3NT is not very smart at all. The auction screams "psyche!", and gives the opponents 4D, 4H, 4S and double (compared with 4S for example).

I agree with all of this.

The problem on this hand though I think is deciding whether to sacrifice over 6/7.

Perhaps 2 or 6 is right. You either want to know how confidently they bid slam or make them guess.

Opener is 10-15, so often won't be able to Blackwood anyway.

I am not saying this makes 5 wrong, it may still be best. :(

5S. Your hand, for all of its lack of values, has a void that rates to be working and We rate to be in an 11 card fit.

Make your maximum pressure bid and get out of the auction.

I think the key things here are

opener is limited

you want something high enough to make opps think you have more than you have , and yet make a sacrifice sound doubleable at as low a level as possible

3spades should do the trick , probably ; with 15 max highly likely opener will be stuck for a bid , and whether or not pt decides to bid 4 it is likely that rho will find it difficult to express his values constructively ; further bid in spades next round coming up , semi psyches have to be followed up !

5 spades max for me , but wonder what pt will bid

nice question , look forward to seeing the whole hand
