benlessard
(2H)------X-------(3H)---------X (responsive)(P)-------??? What is the minimal hoding to pass here. What does 3S means here.Is 4m forcing ?
gnasher
At IMPs, passing would be an unusual action. The most likely holding is probably xxx, in a strongish balanced hand that doubled 2♥ because it didn't have a heart stop. I don't think I'd pass 3♥x with a 42(43) shape. At matchpoints against vulnerable opponents, I might pass with xx and a good defensive hand on which I wasn't willing to drive to game. If the responsive double includes hands with four spades (I think it does), 3♠ just shows a four-card suit. If the responsive double denies four spades, 3♠ shows a strong 4-card suit. 4m is non-forcing. We could have a combined 20-count or even less. Hanoi5
I believe the responsive double denies having 4 spades, if you have 4 spades you bid them (partner is supposed to have 4, usually). However, being this a double at the 2 and then 3 level, I'm not so sure of what I just said.
ArtK78
The classic meaning of the responsive double here would be values without 4 spades and a hand not suited for a 3NT call. However, I know of at least one partnership which uses the double to indicate invitational values WITH 4 spades and a 3♠ bid to be merely competitive. So, like all things of this nature, it is a matter of partnership agreement.
pclayton
I'll pass with a 3244 sometimes at IMPs. Double is 'cards'. Whether or not it denies 4♠'s is a matter of agreement. Doubler's responsibility is to bid 4 card suits UTL.
Guest Jlall
My default is to pass with a doubleton heart.
