kfay
[hv=d=s&v=e&s=sakhxxxdkxxcakq10x]133|100|Scoring: IMP1♣-(2♦)-2♠-(3♦)3NT-(P)-4♠-(P)?[/hv] First I didn't open 2NT. Second I bid 3NT. What do you do over 3♦ (and possible responses) after you decide to open 1♣. If you're dumb like I am (1♣...3NT) but now are smart, what are your options at this point? TylerE
I'm cueing 5♣.
kfay
I'm cueing 5♣. My thoughts are that 5♣--> to play. ?

kenrexford
First I didn't open 2NT. You cannot show the same hand with two different sequences. Whatever you do now, partner cannot possibly visualize this hand, because you obviously would have opened 2NT had you thought about it. han
I'm willing to bet nobody will suggest the call chosen at the table, even though it was a great success.
mikeh
We can be fairly confident that partner has a stiff or void diamond, given that the opps are red v white. I don't think we can bid 5♣ as a cue: it is simply too dangerous. I think it SHOULD be a cue... with long clubs as the basis of our 3N, we'd bid 4N rather than 5♣, but who knows what he will think, and there is so little upside to the cue that it doesn't offset the risk that he'll lay down dummy.... and dummy may be really poor for us on a heart lead. I think that slam really depends on whether he has the heart Ace, so I am going to make the only unambiguous cue available... 5♦. He should NOT cue second round control here (at least, that's what I am telling myself.. I believe, generally, in cuing up the line, with 1st and 2nd treated equally, but I don't think that that approach applies in auctions like this where it is clear that, whatever I am doing, I am stretching). And I certainly don't think that he can afford to cue the heart K when he has no black suit A or K.. if he is going to cooperate, he has to have the heart Ace. I think I am safe against his bidding grand, because while I might bid this way with Ax xx Axx AKQxxx, I surely couldn't hold AK xx Axx AKQxxx  So my possession of the top two spades is insurance. brianshark
Well I want to be in 6, but I need to be declarer to protect the ♦K in case pard has a doubleton, so I'm going to bid 6N. (I'm worried that 5♣ or 4NT may be passed.)
brianshark
Edit: I just saw the vulnerability... West almost certainly doesn't have only 5 ♦s so pard must have a singleton. I'm less sure now.
Finch
Any 6NT bidder is likely to be really, really unhappy on a heart lead.
Wackojack
Here is a not very subtle option: 6♠ trusting partner to have at least ♥A and ♠QJ10xxx for her bid and hoping clubs come in. Possibly missing 7♠ if partner is void in ♦.

In that case, I suspect 7♣ would be better.
Guest movingon
6 spades partner has 10+ hcp and 7 spades... If he had had a weaker hand, he would have bid 3 spades (preemptive) the first time. I am gambling that partner has a stiff diamond.
