You have no agreed defense against this opening, playing natural (no leb etc) What do you bid now and what do you plan on partners response? mikeh
I would bid 3N. If doubled, I run to 4♠. I can't bid 2N, since partner is allowed to insist on hearts. 3N is to play.. it is not a stronger 2N overcall.. strong 2N overcalls double then bid 3N. 3N shows an ability to take 9 tricks opposite a non-horrible dummy. I will, I hope, later thank rho for allowing me to play AKQJ9x opposite stiff for 6 winners notwithstanding the 5-1 break. I can't pass, since +200-350 is no consolation for +600 or 630. jtfanclub
3♣ for me. I don't like the hand for 3NT. Either we have a club fit, in which case we should probably be playing it in clubs, or we don't, in which case this is going to be a nightmare for transportation. I think passing hoping for an X from partner is pointless. If partner X's, then he's got some clubs, which I suspect is going to mean a red suit pull by LHO, and I don't think I can double and sit a 3red bid at this vulnerability. Yeah, I know 3♣ is an underbid, but partner sees the vulnerability. He knows what to do. P.S. I expect lots of people to be in 4♠ going down thanks to the bad split. I expect any positive score to be a good result.

I expect any positive score to be a good result. I hate 3♣. Give partner a heart stopper, and a diamond honor and 3NT has plenty of play. Partner is unlikely to be able to have values to bid game after you bid 3♣ - thus there appears to be almost no upside to bidding 3♣ imo - what, you want to play a partscore? 2♠ is certainly not making many tricks... +110 is worse than +150 at minimum if it gets passed out in 2♠. brianshark
Pass, because believe it or not, we're probably not making game here, not on our own anyway. Maybe if pard can balance with his known shortage in spades, we can say something then.
georgi
Pass, would love to see parter re open with a X.quite enough reason to do same, with anything else, i think that the RHO will say "Phew"

Codo
If someone is guilty of missing the club slam, it is your partner. What did he expect for your 3 NT bid? Why did he not bid more? I mean AQxx, Aqx,xxx ,Axx is a great Club slam, and 3 NT will promise more then this...
NickRW
I bid and made 3NT for average, but p kept bugging me about the missed club slam. I wouldn't beat yourself up about it. You squeaked above average on a hand where quite likely others did not face this preemptive opening. Preempts sometimes work. Plus that preempt is Dutch style - but I doubt that many Dutch have experience of having to be overcaller with that hand you had against it. This was a fairly wild deal. Be glad you lived to fight another board. Nick
vuroth
Sounds like resulting to me. I bet none of the 7 scores ahead of you faced the spade preempt. Besides, if your minor suits were reversed, and you'd bypassed 3NT to chase a non-existant diamond slam, I bet your partner would have been even more unhappy.
