Playing 2/1 what is the meaning of 3 in this auction

1-1, 1-3, 3-3,4-a.p.

and is 4 passable?

Sorry if im posting in the wrong forum  :)

I play 3c here is invite, good invite. NOT game force.

3d=cue for 3nt NOT game force.

3H=cue for 3nt NOT game force.

4c=passable but pretty good hand.

If it matters after 3c I play 4d at anytime in auction by either party to be rkc for clubs........

I don't know 2/1 :( but since when has ignorance deterred the expression of opinions? :) From first principles :)
  • 3 = 4th suit asking for a stop e.g. Axxx x Jxx AKxxx
  • 3 = Natural or waiting move in case opener has a stop after all.
  • 4 = Natural non-forcing unless 4th suit is game-forcing (as many agree it to be).

3 = asking for a diamond stop, denies three hearts

3 = denying a diamond stop, showing five decent hearts and suggesting a 5-2 fit

4 = to play

I'm not a big fan of auctions that are forcing to game or four of a minor, but it seems sensible that this 4 should be non-forcing, because both hands are limited. If 1 were forcing, I'd want 4 to be forcing too.

Hey! With which gnasher answer do you gentlemen agree?!?!?

:rolleyes:

I mean, I agree with one of them myself. Which makes me disagree with the implication of the other. LOL

I agree with the post where he said something bridgewise. I haven't got a clue regarding who's spent (too much or too little) time in your company, Ken! B)

Agree with Gnasher.

Suppose opener had something like

Qxxx

Jxx

AQ

AJxx

I.e. a diamond stopper and 3-card hearts support (yes, I know many prefer to rebid 1NT with this hand but suppose ftsota that we play up-the-line). Then I think opener should bid 3. Responder can then temporize with 3 to find 3NT.
