gwnn
xxxAQxxTxA9xx IMPS red on red, two passes and RHO opens 1♦ precision to you, X would be a real t/o X (i.e. promising clubs also). What would you change in this hand/vulnerability to change your action from p to X or X to p?
Guest Jlall
I Would X with a jack in a round suit, or the SQ, or the DK, or if one of my diamonds was a spade.
the hog
Where is your option for a 1H overcall? Close to a X but I would prefer to at least hold the SJ for this.
gwnn
sorry I'm not interested in 1♥
han
My answer is pretty much Justin's. The hand would need to be a little bit better. And the more perfect the distribution the lighter I'm doubling.
helene_t
Pass, I am not so interested in fighting for the partscore at red/red IMPs without spade length. Make it ♣Q stronger or such and I double.
andy_h
I would want an extra Jack anywhere except in D's, or move a small diamond to a small spade.

Wow, the man famous for 4333 doubles declines on a 3424. I think you're getting old, Justin. :P Please tell me I don't have to say that this is just a joke. han
xxxxAQxTxA9xx This hand is worse, not better. xxxxAQxxTxA9x This hand is also worse but it does have both majors. Still a clear pass I think. As for JT, it seems consistent to me to double both on xxxx AQxx x A9xx and Kxxx AQx xxx A9x but to pass with xxx AQxx 10x A9xx. jtfanclub
As for JT It was just a joke, I swear. (Yes, I understand the difference in hcp between his 4333 X and this hand).

Still a clear pass I think.Yes, both are worse than the original hand, but I wondered if 43 rather than 34 in the majors made a difference and further whether 44 in the majors would make a difference. Maybe I should have tried: AQxxxxxTxA9xx and A9xxAQxxTxxxx
han
AQxxxxxTxA9xx You must be really good if you double with this hand and pass with the original. To my simple mind they are equivalent.

Nope, I don't. But, I was wondering if there was some subtlety with 43 vs 34 that I was missing. I guess if I am missing it, I am not alone! Guest Jlall
A9xxAQxxTxxxx This one is really tempting for me, but I don't think I would do it at imps r/r. Definitely at like MP NV though.

jdonn
I would not double with this, or pretty much any of the examples presented. What's wrong with actually having standards that don't decline every time I hold a hand which doesn't quite reach them?

What's wrong with actually having standards that don't decline every time I hold a hand which doesn't quite reach them? Isn't 4432 with a very good 11 (ie perfect honor structure) or most 12s (ie those without wastage in the enemy suits), or 4441 with 10 and good quick tricks about normal for standards in modern expert bridge? Anyways, if you read OP he was trying to figure out what our standards are, so what are yours?
