ewj
I've come across contrasting styles but what do people think about doubling 4[H] openings on AJxxKJxxKxxxx No pips...you are at favourable (4H was first in)...would it make any difference if the vun were equal or if you had 4 spades? What if partner protects with a double, you bid 4NT prob...do you give it a 6th?

nige1
I've come across contrasting styles but what do people think about doubling 4♥ openings on ♠ AJx ♥ x ♦ KJxx ♣ KxxxxNo pips...you are at favourable (4H was first in)...would it make any difference if the vun were equal or if you had 4 spades? What if partner protects with a double, you bid 4NT prob...do you give it a 6th?IMO Over 4♥, _P = 10, _X = 7.A vulnerable double would be even more courageous. It does depend on partnership style but our agreement is that Immediate actions should be sound and Double should promise primary ♠ support or sufficient values to cope with a ♠ response.[*]If partner _Xs 4♥ then 4♠ = 10, 4N = 9, 5C = 8You would be brave to raise to six because partner may balance in the hope that you hold something like what you've got. A case of Americans rush in :) where Angles fear to tread? :)

gnasher
I'd double at any vulnerability, but I wouldn't call it easy. What does a difficult double look like?
ewj
And with QxxxxxAQxxxAx you'd pull?
gnasher
And with QxxxxxAQxxxAx you'd pull? Yes, I'd bid with this hand as advancer. Partner has made a takeout double, and I have nine cards in his suits and plenty of high cards. There's even a case for making a slam try by bidding 4NT (ostensibly the minors) and converting 5♣ to 5♦.
