2 - (Dbl) - 4 - AP[/hv]

Your 2 opening was preemptive with hearts and a minor.

West leads the A and then continues with the A then the 4, and you ruff in hand while E plays the K. Hearts are 2-2. Plan the play.

Try this:

A, K, ruff, heart to dummy, ruff, Q, running it if not covered.

This works anytime diamonds are 4 on your left with a singleton J or 10 on your right, as well as anytime diamonds are 3 on your left with a doubleton J or 10 on your right.

You could accomplish the same thing with an intrafinesse - pull trump, cross to dummy and lead the 8, running it if not covered. Get back to your hand and lead the Q (or lead towards the A9 of diamonds in dummy if the 10 or J was played by RHO on the first round of the suit). The intrafinesse works without eliminating the spades, and it is the line to take if hearts do not break 2-2.

In thinking this through, the intrafinesse line is superior as it also works if RHO unexpectedly plays the K on the first round of the suit.

I will try to get an idea about West's diamond length.

I am assuming LHO has 4 carder club, based on the club 4.

So after ruffing a , play AK spade, ruff spade high, trump to dummy (drawing last trumps), ruff spade.

If West has 5 spades, I will play a diamond to A and low throughout (or just low on the first round) (Diamond Kx with LHO).

If West has 4 spades, then I try and run the diamond Q (hoping for Diamond JT with RHO)

If West has 3 spades, the I play diamond Q, hoping the Diamond T or J drops from RHO.
