ArtK78
I don't see how you can pass this. I double.
jtfanclub
I would be tempted to bid 5♠ to see if I can get to double 6♦ instead. But I'd just X. Partner didn't X 2♥, after all.
rogerclee
Pass WTP? Edit: I guess I should add that I think this is a WTP because the opps are very bad. Opponents who are very bad and bid like this always have the nuts. If they were extremely bad I might double. For all I know, we are getting a top because 3NT is cold. ArtK78
Pass WTP? WTP? You could be cold for a grand opposite as little as: AxxxxxxKQJxxx
matmat
Pass WTP? WTP? You could be cold for a grand opposite as little as: AxxxxxxKQJxxx that's not asking much at all of a hand that passed 2♥
ArtK78
Pass WTP? WTP? You could be cold for a grand opposite as little as: AxxxxxxKQJxxx that's not asking much at all of a hand that passed 2♥ I will admit that I did not take the pass over 2♥ into account. But that hand is not everyone's idea of a 3♣ bid over 2♥. Even so, I said that the example hand gives you play for a GRAND slam. You could be cold for a SMALL slam (and possibly a grand) opposite much less; say AxxxxxxKxxxxx I am sure you wouldn't bid 3♣ over 2♥ on those cards. And, of course, your partner could have spades with you, such as this hand: AxxxxxxxxxKQx 6♠ is nearly 100% opposite that hand, and the grand may make. And I am sure that partner cannot be criticised for failing to call over 2♥. The bottom line is that if partner fits one of your black suits and has a few black suit honor cards, slam is likely to make. And it is unlikely that your opponents are making 5♦ if partner chooses to pass your double (yes, it is possible). So passing 5♦ is a very anti-percentage call - it is right only when the opponents make and your partner is going to pass out your double OR if your partner pulls the double and neither side can make anything OR your partner pulls and your side goes for more than the value of their making game. Quite a parlay.
jtfanclub
that's not asking much at all of a hand that passed 2♥ http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=25985 jt's Insta-logic says you X this. The only reason not to double a 5m contract in MPs is if you think everybody else is going to be there or if 3NT is a viable option (ie., you beat out the 3NT+1 guys if you pass but not if you X). I suspect that if they make 5 they're getting a top X'd or not. Besides, if I'm thunderous enough, maybe I can convince LHO to bid 5♥. <_<
Halo
Pass. LHO has a the diamonds and spade AQ and a club honour (void in hearts of course). Partner has the hand he has shown - nothing. Simple players bidding huge hands don't always go off.
pclayton
Just double. Pass is a lazy bid. You are happy if pard pulls and you are happy if he sits. There's no other outcome <_<

mikegill
Ok, I chose to X, as did many of the other posters, but you end up playing 5d (x or not) either way. Question 2: what do you lead?
