Easy 2H. Meckstroth wrote in his book something to the effect of "Don't trap pass at the 2 level with 4 trumps."

Definitely don't do it when you have 3 card support for partner and a bad hand.

I actually think this is a close decision. My hand is extremely defensive, and if partner actually has a good hand, I would rather play 2x than declare 4. If he has a bad hand, I am less comfortable about this, but I think -380 will be quite rare (maybe I am underestimating this possibility?), and -180 is not really that bad, especially since I do not think 2 is making.

However, if partner does something other than pass or double, I will really wish I had bid 2.

I don't know, the normal action definitely seems to be 2, but I am strangely attracted to pass.

Can't I do both? Support partner on this round and penalise the juniors on the next? Or is only one of them a junior?

Or you can pass and double 3.

I don't see how a 2 call is going to significantly induce them to 3 and a pass won't.

I held this hand btw.

crazy is relative. I found myself making such an overcall on xx xxx xxx KJxxx a couple of weeks ago (yes I'm a junior- and at least it was fav vul :D). However, with trying to penalise this just seems too far, as well as being difficult to show your hand if partner doesn't double for you.

Can I pass now, and bid 2 if partner doubles? Or is that too stupid for words?

I dunno. It's a 7 count, but it's not a 7 count I'm proud of.

My real worry is that it'll go p-1-(2)-P-(2)-P-(P)

After all, sounds to me like two guys don't have spades, and I don't have spades, so....

I guess I'd better bid 2 after all.

all red IMPS. RHO is a crazy junior. LHO likes to open light.

p-1-(2)-?

IMO 2 = 10, _P = 8.

The notorious schismatic, Andrew Robson :) responsible for spreading the dreaded fit-jump heresy :) commands his Acolytes to "Support with support" so we have no real choice :)

I prefer to play tentative penalty doubles (rather than negative doubles) on this auction, and I would not double with this hand because it has two flaws: two many cards in partner's suit and not enough general strength.

Playing negative doubles it seems even less like I should play for penalties, when partner reopens with a double he will be short in clubs, not always a singleton, but when we are able to convert, trumps will be 4-1 more often than 4-2.
