Am I to understand that a 2♦ bid would have shown 5 or more diamonds, and that the 2♣ call is a "catch-all" bid with a game forcing hand but no suit to bid (other than clubs, perhaps)? Actually I almost never do this. I never sit down with the mentality that I'm outclassed and I don't swing unnecessarily. But I really feel like this is the time to try something. If I exit passively or worse lead a low diamond, declarer will clear hearts, get back in, and run hearts. After 6 rounds of hearts and two side tricks, which 5 cards am I keeping? I'll probably get thrown in to lead from my diamond anyway, so I might as well burn the queen at trick 1. Plus by leading the Q declarer might misplay with split honors and partner having the J. "GF" might have helped, and the fact that 2♣ did not promise clubs but denied 4 spades, 5 diamonds, or a direct heart raise of some sort might have helped. Do you ask your opponents questions to which the answers are obvious or irrelevant every time you have a problem? you didn't say anything about the strength of a 2/1 bid or what other bids meant.
