gwnn
76532QJ2AKJT7 imps favorable, RHO opens 1♣. for those of you who have not gotten nausea from the thought of 1♠, let me ask you, what would you modify in your hand (and please don't modify spades too much) to make this a 1♠ call? Echognome
I basically play that I need either a good suit OR a good hand (or both) to overcall. This hand is neither. If you want to keep me with the bad suit, you've got to give me a better (at least a clear opening) hand. So give me 76532 AQ2 AK JT7 and I will overcall 1♠. TylerE
Move the K♦ to ♠. I'm not crazy about this hand..looks like I want to defend.

pclayton
1♠. About a minimum for me with this suit.
Guest Jlall
1S for me, not a minimum.
rogerclee
I agree with gnome mostly, but I'm not as picky about the hand quality as he is.
mr1303
This hand = ick. Therefore I pass. I expect partner to lead my suit holding Kx. If I have good general values, this may not be such a bad thing with a poor suit quality. Poor hand & poor suit = pass for me.

Codo
You found the borderline where I would overcall 1 Spade to 1 Diamond. To overcall 1 Spade over 1 Club I need even a little less.

andy_h
1S, agree it's not a minimum. We have the boss suit, let's get the competitive auction started whilst we can! Coming back in later may be risky, or our possible spade fit may be lost forever. When's the last time you were doubled at the 1lvl at favourable? mikegill
This is on the border for me, so I might bid or pass depending on mood. I would certainly overcall 1♠ against most opponents, maybe pass against really good players.
Apollo81
I'd pass. The minimum change would be to change it to (5422) somehow.
dcvetkov
1 spade bidders must be really thrilled when partner leads against 3NT from Kx of spades. This hand has some defensive potential, and spades are ,hmm well enough bad to give me nausea. I pass for now and await development

mikeh
pass.. I need the spade J to overcall. I am clearly getting too old for this game... I wonder how many of the 1♠ bidders would make the call at the table.. I don't doubt that some of them would. As for being doubled at the one-level... I don't understand the comment... don't we have a partner? Why is partner compelled to pass rather than raise on 10xx, as an example? While the 1-level is not safe, it is not that level that scares me.. I don't worry too much about the lead... ***** happens and sometimes the lead from, say, Kx or Qx is best for us.. against notrump when we have entries, and often it matters not, since they would pick the suit up if we hadn't bid. But I find the thought of overcalling on a suit in which we lack even 6th round control a stretch.

This despite the fact that I am still one of the younger players in most tournaments that I attend (a fact that has not changed much over the last 35 years).
