Recommended Posts

It depends on strength of your hand, but a lot of people play a form of leaping Micheals, this shows a 5-5 hand or better with( of course GF or close it hand)

It has also can show the other major and minor. 2 - 4 shows and

Generally when you bid 3 of their opening minor you are asking pd to bid 3 NT with a stopper in their suit. You could have a running minor with some cards in other suit but no stopper in their opening suit. Save that for that, and if you don't wanna play a convention, just bid it natural, bid highest one first and if you have to bid again bid other major(minor) suit.

Hi Kathrin!

There are several ways and they depend of strength.

With 5-5 and (14)15+hcp you can use leaping michaels. Example:

(2)-?

4: 5+-5+major, rf (will show it on 4 from responder)

4: 5+-5+, rf

With both majors you can also bid take out double. Very useful convention is scrambling rebid of take out double - cheapest suit rebid from doubler doesn't show strength, but willing to play in other 2 suits. Example:

(2)-X-(p)-3

(p)-3: not strong, willing to play in both majors

Attention! To play scrambling rebids of take out double you need to have agreements with your partner!

Some of bulgarian pairs continue to play michaels after 2 level opening (2NT and cue bid) and double with strong NT.
