blackshoe
4♥ imo.
655321
4♦ for me. There are only 3 plausible calls here: 3NT, 4♥ and 4♦. 3NT is bad because partner likely has short diamonds, and we can't hold up at all - without 9 runners, 3NT won't make. 4♥ is reasonable, but partner might not have 4 hearts. 4♦ looks best to me. Partner being 4-4 in the majors and electing to bid 4♠ instead of 4♥ is really the only downside to 4♦.
the hog
Agree with 4D. Hope to hear 4H. With 4-4 Ms pd will bid 4H and not 4S.
Codo
4 ♥ I don't understand the 4 Diamond bid. When pd has 5-3 in the majors, he had bid spades, not double. When he has 5-4 4 Heart is fine. When he is 4-4 we want to play 4 Heart. When he is 4-3, I really don't care if we play this or that 4-3 fit. There is no reason to believe that 4 Spades play better in that case. If our hand had been 3415, there is a point to play 4 Spade. But now....
jdonn
Agree with 4♦. Can't think of a single way this misses the better fit in a major since partner will always 4♥ with 4-4 or 3-3 (if he bids a major). The gain is when partner is 5-3 of course. pclayton
Yep, 4♦. That ♦ stop is very tenuous.
Finch
4 ♥ I don't understand the 4 Diamond bid. When pd has 5-3 in the majors, he had bid spades, not double. Looking at a good hand with 5-3 in the majors, many people will double, e.g. KQJxxAQxxKQxx the idea being you double, then bid 3S over 3H to show a flexible hand with 5 spades. Alternatively, if you think partner would always over in spades with a 5-card suit, 4D (two possible strains) will get you to clubs opposite something a little offshape such as KQxxAxAxAJ10xx (of course if you play in clubs on this hand, you will be playing in clubs on the first one as well, you can't cope with everything)
