neilkaz
What tricks does South expect to take in a diamond contract? Agreed so South's 4th call should be 4♠ again stressing the huge missfit and hoping to end the auction or at least stop short of a hopeless slam. jillybean
I was an innocent bystander here so I can’t reveal the thought process but it is just the type of mess I get myself into.
neilkaz
I was an innocent bystander here so I can’t reveal the thought process but it is just the type of mess I get myself into. And how will you learn to minimize the chances of getting into similar messes as your bridge career progresses ? Simple ! Keep posting interesting hands here and receiving feedback from many players. I trust others will agree that S's 4th call of 5♦, supporting a likely 6 card suit with a stiff ace and encouraging PD when S knows the hand is a super missfit, is a very poor call, IMO. The forums here have certainly improved my bidding skills and have helped me to discard some 80's methods I was using in regards to competing over opp preempts and other stuff. For those who think that they might have some holes in their bidding skills (I'm still not as good as I'd like in regards to opener's rebids in comp when PD failed to respond) just post a couple examples. .. neilkaz .. Codo
The problem with this hand was:South started wit 1♠ 3 ♣. This sounds like a gameforcing bid to most players. Maybe North thougth that gameforcing= HCPs so that he bid much too much. But even 5 Diamonds is no place of beauty. I guess the 5 Diamond bid from south was no good idea either. If he rebids his spades, North has a chance to pass 4 Spade or correct to 5 Clubs.
