Mr. Dodgy
[hv=d=e&v=n&w=s9ha765dkt652cq95&e=sa8hkdaq87cak7432]266|100|Scoring: IMPEast opens 1♣ (3+) South overcalls 2♣ (Majors)[/hv] You are having a horrid day in a teams tournament, and things are about to get worse LOL. Playing 'Dodgified Standard American', which includes a basic Unusual Vs Unusual, the first decision for mine here seems to be whether to bid 2♦ or 2♠. The shape looks good, and the values reasonable, but the suit itself is a bit iffy. Maybe 2 outta 3 aint bad, but I chose 2♦. What happened next is too painful to describe, but it got me wondering... What do East's bids now mean? Can UvU be 'extended' such that 2♥ would be a strong hand with good ♣s and 2♠ be a cue-raise for ♦s? Or are these bids better reserved for something else? Do you have an agreement for this kind of situation? How would you bid this? Thanks, Justin.
helene_t
Our agreement is to use 2M to show a guard in that suit. Presumably it shows extras in this situation since a weak hand would just pass or bid 3♣.
han
Maybe I'd just splinter with the east hand. I know, it's a stiff king which is ugly, but at least my intentions are clear immediately.
pclayton
Did North really pass with 5 spades? I would expect the bidding to be at the 4 level on East's 2nd turn. I don't like splintering with a stiff K so I'd start with 2♠. Either way we'd get to 6 and sniff at 7.

neilkaz
After 2♦ east needs to Q bid a major and start you on your way.
