CSGibson
[hv=d=n&v=n&s=sj965hakt93d5cq93]133|100|Scoring: IMP1♣-1♥,2♣-?[/hv] Playing 2/1 with a first time partner (a good player), 2♦ would be an artificial game force, with responder's first priority being to support hearts with 3, and that's as far as your agreements go. What would you bid with this hand? Follow up is hidden, but I would appreciate thoughts anyway after you have made your first call. Hidden: Say you decide, for better or worse, to make a 2♠ call. Partner continues with 3♦. Your call now?
Guest Jlall
2D looks perfect. If I didn't bid 2D then presumably I would be considering my hand not worth a GF and I would bid 3C, but I think this hand is too good for that. I don't understand 2S if you play 2D as described, you have no interest in spades and no values in spades.
the hog
3C looks perfect to me - invitational with C support.
CSGibson
I don't understand 2S if you play 2D as described, you have no interest in spades and no values in spades. The idea at the time was an attempt to describe a 4-5-1-3 invitational hand if partner bid what I anticipated, 2N, by bidding 3 clubs next. I wasn't happy with it, though, which is why I posted. Apollo81
First choice at previous call 2♦, second choice 3♣. On the continuation you gave, I would bid 5♣ (or a NF 4♣ if available) since partner would have bid 2N with a diamond stop.
pclayton
2♦ is fine. 3♣ is a nothing bid to me. I think 2♠ in your system should be something different, like a 5-6 for instance. Over 3♦ I bid 3N. Good partners put down x xx Axxx AKxxxx. I'm not particularly worried about the spade suit running, since both opponents have passed up the chance to overcall at the one level.
