What's your bid?

My problem with 3N is they ALWAYS find the diamond lead, and you never find spades. My problem with X is that partner may go nuts in diamonds.

Not sure really, I used to just auto 3N but I think that given that clubs aren't solid and we have no aces outside and our spades are so strong I should X. If my pointed suits were reversed I'd definitely go the 3N route.

I will just bid 5, the contract I think has the best chance of making. 3NT is my other choice. I really don't see what double gets me, partner bids 2NT lebensohl and I can't even bid 3 any more so I.........?

I double.

The downside is when partner bids a large number of diamonds, and that is an unlikely outcome. Even if he has long diamonds, he may have 4+ spades as well, and that will usually get him bidding spades even with a good hand.

3N is way too committal and misdescriptive

5 is a crapshoot... it is even odds as to whether LHO or CHO holds the short hearts... altho we may well survive when partner holds 3 of them... LHO can't lead a void, which he may have.

I hate doubles unprepared for possible calls by partner, and so was actually giving consideration to a quiet 3... but even I can't bring myself to underbid that much.

BTW, over a lebensohl 2N, I bid 3N... partner denies 4 spades, is usually short in hearts and clubs on the auction, so probably has 5+ diamonds, and I'll take the chance.... plus it is opener to lead.

I won't bid clubs.. we are heavy favourites to fail in 5 opposite a weak hand that was trying to get out in 3... if he was going through 2N to make an invitational 3 call, he can still bid 4 over 3N.

So we gained nothing for the priviledge of praying partner doesn't insist on diamonds. Swell.

Because partner didn't bid 2N, he actually bid 3S, or 4S, and you found your spade slam!

Or because he bid 3D showing values and now you know that 3N is probably better than 5C.

Or becuase partner did bid 2N, and you do bid 3C, and partner bids 3D, and you bid 3N and are now much less likely to get a diamond lead, and a diamond lead is much less likely to hurt you, and because you have now described your hand better. Sure you took a slight risk of partner passing 3C, but I think it was worth it.

Haha that's kind of sweet. So name your plans next time, I don't have the the bidding 3 over 2NT read without help.

I still hate double though.

Fair enough. Would you double with reversed minors (I think this one is clear)?

Hi all,

Thanks for the response.. think most go for X or 3NT, with one 5

Now for the next part.. holding this hand as South

[hv=d=w&v=n&s=st987hdakj7653c74]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]

Bidding with West opening

(2) - X - (3)

Your bid? :D

Btw, this is a Teams game if it helps :)

I would bid 3. This hand is not quite as good as it first appears for 3NT. The clubs may not run, and even if they do, and partner has a diamond stopper, that can still be only 7 tricks. I am obviously well placed if partner makes any call, and admit I will sometimes miss a white game when partner has something like QJTx of diamonds and out. 5C could also make opposite not that much, but a heart ruff seems somewhat likely as well.

I would probably bid 5D. 4H is possible.

Whew. And I thought I was crazy for thinking I'd bid 3. Score one up for partnership harmony.

So you thought you were crazy, then you found out I agreed with the call, and thought that somehow made you less crazy?

Thanks to all for the answers and suggestions :)

Anyway, on the table the S hand ventured 4 figuring it shld have a play after the 3 raise by E and N then bidded 6.. easily doubled by E and went down 3.

The bidding:

2 - X - 3 - 4

P - 6 - X - AP

The other table played in 4X-4 so it was a double big swing :)

Here are the 4 hands:

Dealer: West
Vul: None
Scoring: IMP
KQ5
KQ97

AKJT85
You are North, West opens 2 weak preempt. Your bid?

There's also a part 2 to this, would like to know what most pple would do :P

IMO _X = 10, 3N = 8, 3 = 6, 2N = 5.

If partner has a strong hand with , with any luck, he'll bid 3. Then you can bid a firm 3N, place your hand face-down on the table, and start entering the contract in your score-card.

Hi,

If partner showed a strong hand, wouldnt you bid slam with your 3-loser hand? Or at least go for it instead of a 3NT? :)
