Guest Jlall
Playing light opening bids (all 11s, many unbalanced 10s) partner opens 1H, and RHO overcalls 2C (red/white). You hold KQT8x x KJx 987x. What do you do? If you X partner bids 2H, what do you do now?
ArtK78
I double 2♣. Over 2♥, I bid 2♠. While partner may have a "light" opening, he has not denied a reasonable hand. We may have play for any of several games depending on the degree of duplication. Another reason for bidding again is that 2♥ might not make. If partner has a minimum opening and a heart suit like KQJTxx, then passing 2♥ is the right action. But if his heart suit is more like Axxxxx, then bidding again will be the winning action. I assume that this problem is at IMPs, not matchpoints. I am more likely to pass 2♥ at matchpoints.
fachiru
I X 1st; after prd. rebids 2♥ I bid. 2♠.This should show close to 10HCP, 5♠ and less than 2♥.That's what I have and prd. can move on based on this info if he wants to.I really don't think much of a direct 2♠ bid, but I'm sure there are plenty who would bid just that. OleBerg
I pass, if it is imps. This assuming that partners double will be take-out, not guarding against a penalty pass by us. The pass in imps may seem a little strange, but once you double, you have absolutely no clue, to what is right, when partner bids the expected 2♥. If partner take-out-doubles however, 3♠ will describe your hand nicely. If partner balances with anything but double, you'll never have a problem. If partner passes, it is highly likely, that our best chance to go plus, will be defending 2♣. At MP's pass is to dangerous, as the +50 and +100, might easily be a very bad board. Even +150 need not be good. Also, at MP's partner will strecth more to double, and 3♠ loses much of its appeal. If I double, I pass partners 2♥. Quite easy, allthough it may also easily be wrong. pclayton
Dble first and pass 2♥. I don't want the lead through pard's hand, and my guess is pard probably has two clubs. I'm also fearful about my club losers if pard is 2=6=3=2 for instance. I really think hearts will play better.
kenrexford
I respond 2♠ the first time. 1♥-2♣-2♠ What happens next?
andy_h
I X first. Without knowing, LHO may bid/raise clubs and partner may be min and unable to act so I want to get my spades across. Now the awkward decision when 2H comes back around to me. Pass or 2S could be right. I'm persuaded by my KQT8x, so 2S it is.
655321
Pass, planning to bid 3♠ if partner makes a reopening double. I do this whatever the vulnerability, but would fell happier if we were w/r. (Not sure if original post said we are r/w, or 2♣ overcaller was r/w.) If partner has club length, defending 2♣ undoubled is likely to be as good a spot as any. Apollo81
Certainly either double or pass is right at the first call. If I double, I will then pass any non-jump rebid. If I pass and partner doubles, I will bid 3♠, although this may even be an underbid. If I pass and partner bids 2♦, I'll raise to 3♦.
