You open 2♠ - x - 3♠ - p - p - x - p - 4♥ AP. You lead a high spade and cash three after pard unblocks. Pard pitches a middle club on the 3rd. Now what? ArtK78
Partner cannot have a diamond trick, or else he would have let you know with some clear signal. A middle club is a "non-signal," indicating that he is not interested in either a diamond or a club. So, partner cannot have a diamond holding as good as KQ. Therefore, declarer, with the aid of a trump finesse, will have at least 4 heart tricks, 2 diamonds (the A and Q, minimum) and 4 club tricks (partner is telling you he has nothing of interest in clubs, so the clubs are running). The only chance is that partner has the ♥8. If so, a fourth round of spades will produce a trump trick for the defense.
Guest Jlall
Agree with playing a spade with a partner I trust.

gnasher
Partner doesn't have to have ♥8. If declarer has ♥8xxxx he'll probably ruff the fourth spade with the jack, hoping to find them 2-2 with the queen onside.

Even if you think pard has a diamond trick, don't you think a 4th spade is best? I don't think there's a possible way declarer tries to ruff this in hand with the ♥8. If we didn't have the Q-T-9, other plays are possible I think.

If declarer has only four hearts headed by the eight, ruffing with the jack won't help him, so he will discard from dummy. You'd be letting it through if he had xxx 8xxx Axx Jxx or similar.
