jdonn
Here's the full hand. K♠ safe from the lead, 3nt would have been a fabulous contract had I got there. So is 3NT with 3♠ unsafe from the lead :(
jillybean
you should have. 2♠ is supposed to be game forcing... we got to game, just not the right one :(

So is 3NT with 3♠ unsafe from the lead :) sorry, I dont understand this :D Josh is just saying that it doesn't matter if North or South is declaring. If you get a spade lead through the K, East doesn't have a high enough spade to make it matter. So if East leads say the ♠8, you can just play low from the south hand. West can win cheaply, but cannot cash 5 spade winners.
neilkaz
you should have. 2♠ is supposed to be game forcing... we got to game, just not the right one  My guess is that you rebid 3♥ and PD raised to game ? Unless he's 100% certain 3♥ shows 6, he should just reply 3NT, but why muddy the waters for him ? There's not much on these sequences in any of my books other than Washington Std, which states that 2♠ then 3♥ is GF, while 1♦-1♥-2♦-3♥ is just invitational. I guess than your 3♥ if that was your call, should really show 6, since PD could have rebid 3♥ to show 3 card support, lacking a ♣ stop or doubting NT. From your seat, you have good expectations of running 6♦ tricks which PD doesn't know and PD stops ♣ and LHO didn't (I would've) O/C 1♠ so 3NT it is and rather clearly I am afraid. 3NT is my 3rd bid as S here
