upgrade or downgrade?

Recommended Posts

A good time to upgrade is when your points are working well with partner, and your fitting diamonds are gold here.

Ideal is a forcing 3, perhaps more common in the US than the UK (?). Over here I'd have to bid a 2 and then support diamonds (or raise 2NT to 3NT).

I don't understand this at all. Just bid 3D nf invitational.

Partner has 3- (did not bid 1), (2)3- (did not support ), 3- (did not bid 2) and an unbalanced hand (did not bid 1NT).

Not holding many 's partner won't have many stopper there.

So I don't want to be in NT.

My bid is 3.

I would bid 2NT, not perfect but I have stopped at least. 3 will often be passed with a decent hand for 3NT and my AJ suggests that partner has something on the side.

Forcing 3? 3 is what I'd bid without K...

At imps i think you have to force here. Give partner a M ace the K of D and a club stopper and you want to be in 3Nt. I see many complete minimum that make game and partner will pass 3D. Partner will not like his hand with Kxxxxx or Qxxxxx but game will be good.

So clear 2S for me.

I would also bid 2. But, notice that I am the only one so far to bid a black 2.

(Technically, benlessard bid "two ess" with no symbol, although it was black.)

Given you play IMPs, 3NT.

As it is, the opinions may or may not differ, if 2S

was already gf or not.

My guess, the NA fraction will claim it is, more

Acol influenced players will claim not.

But of course, it does not matter on the given hand.

With kind regards

Marlowe

I agree.

However, this is precisely why I bid two black spades. Thise who introduced blue spades have a big problem here.

Here's the full hand. K safe from the lead, 3nt would have been a fabulous contract had I got there.
