Another hand in competition

Recommended Posts

Q1. Is three CLUBS right?

Heavens no, 3 was a horrible bid. You have a GREAT hand for this auction, and can almost (that is almost) close your eyes and bid 6 on power. Let's make some assumptions about your partner's double of 2's.

1) it is support double for spades,

2) it is takeout of showing and ,

3) it is optional offering a chance to play 2x.

No matter which one this is, you are in GREAT shape. I would have cue-bid 3 over each of these.

Q2. Over 3 what do you bid?

Well, this is a non-question, I can't be in this horrible situation. But given that I am, I will still cue-bid 4. I am not stopping short of 5, but by bidding 3 I may easily miss 6 now.

First, Dbl is agreed playes as spt dbl. So pd is simply showing 3card spade raise.

Second, I agree that 3C is bad bid. i thought it is same as in sequence 1C-1M-2M-3C. After 3D, I reevaluate the hand, and though pd should have no waste in D, so I jump to 5C. This turns out to be too ambitious. Pd's Hand:

S: QXX

H: ATX

D: XXX

C: AK9X

Unfortuantely, SK is behind SQ, so we are down 1. Note that we can beat 3D by two tricks. So dbl here would be winning decision.

AM I too unlucky or I judge it badly after 3D?

Vul: None

Dealer: W

W N E S

P 1C P 1S

2D X P 3C

P P 3D ?

your hand:

S: A98X

H: KJ9

D: X

C: QJTXX

Q1: is 3C right?

Q2: after 3d, what do you bid?

1. No it is a big underbid.

2. 3 showing my shape and allowing partner to make a good decision.

First, Dbl is agreed playes as spt dbl. So pd is simply showing 3card spade raise.

This is a good example for not support doubles.

Unfortuantely, SK is behind SQ, so we are down 1. Note that we can beat 3D by two tricks. So dbl here would be winning decision.

Unlucky and slightly ambitious.

3 severely limited partner's ability to participate meaningfully in later competitive decisions.

3H should be gf and showing real suit, isnot it?

Regarding spt dbl, I like it. I think this hand doesnt prove we should give up spt dbl. Whatever you play, you will always have problem with this hand. Without spt dbl, you have to pass 2D, which gives even less information.

Hi Fly:

Q1: is 3C right?

Yes and no. Based on general principles 3c is an underbid because you have excellent clubs for your pd 1c opening, honors in hearts and spades, singleton in the suit where your LHO has values etc. So with that in mind you should bid probably a 4d splinter.

But we can inferr that either LHO has a lot of diamonds and plans to bid 3d next or RHO has support for diamonds and will bid 3d if allowed with that in mind we can "risk" a 3c bid expecting the auction not to end and trying to make an image of our hand as clear as we can for pd.

Q2: after 3d, what do you bid?

3h, very simple, a fragment with values in hearts, pd now assumes we have 4-3-2-4 or 4-3-1-5, if he doesn't bid 3NT our next bid will be 4d making the picture clear.

Unless u play good/bad 2nt here , which mean that 3cl is good, you should bid 3d instead of 3club.

I agree and I am fan of usage of any 2NT as artifical leb/gb convention, with really few exceptions.
