TimG
Is there a difference in expected strength between these two jumps to 3♦? P-P-1♥-DBLP-3♦ P-P-1♥-DBL1♠-3♦
Finch
No, although there may be a slight change in hand type
pclayton
Probably no, but it might, depending on whether or not you play responsive doubles here. I can think of a lot of 5D332 hands where I'd rather double on instead of jumping to 3♦.
helene_t
If dbl shows spades, we have two cuebids available, don't we? Anyone who have assigned meanings to those two cuebids?

Finch
If dbl shows spades, we have two cuebids available, don't we? Anyone who have assigned meanings to those two cuebids? It's normal (well, fairly normal from round here) to play that 1H x 1S... x = exactly 4 spades, values to compete to the 2-level (or 5 spades too strong to bid 2S or 3S at once)2S = natural, 5 spades3S, 4S = also natural The cue bid tends to deny 4 spades, so takes the place of a responsive double When RHO ostensibly has shown 4 cards in your suit it's quite important to know the size of your fit: there's a huge difference between a 5-4 fit breaking 4-0 and a 4-4 fit breaking 4-1 or 5-0.
