whereagles
>> Agree with bidding? It's ok. >> What is 4♥? Some sort of club cue, I guess. >> What now? 5♣. Got nothing but clubs, no diamond control, no help in spades.. what else but 5 now??
MickyB
Sorry, have just added the second double.
pclayton
3♣ is a good call since it doesn't give up on 3N. The hand is just a little too good for a direct 4♣. I don't know what 4♥ is (Choice of Game Q? big hand in spades (unlikely), big raise of clubs (likely)), but I doubt it really matters since I'm bidding 5♣. Guest Jlall
Agree with bidding, I'd just bid 5C now.
Finch
We were actually a bit good for 3C, I might have cued (and got into a horribly messy auction). 4H is a cue for clubs. I'm not entirely sure what 3S was, when 3H was available, so it must be a very good suit Give partner AKJxxAxxxAxxx and slam is on the spade finesse. I would like bid 4S as a cue, but I think the auction may go wrong. I would pass the double. I don't have a heart control, but I have too good a hand to bid 5C. If partner is interested in slam I definitely have extras, if he is looking at controls in every suit he'll know what to do.
mikeh
I like the auction so far, and agree that 4♥ was a cue... I'd bid 5♣ now.
gnasher
Whether 4♥ is a cue bid or a choice of games is mainly a question of philosophy, but anyone who plays it as a cue bid has the wrong philosophy. I bid 5♣. I don't understand Frances's 4=1=4=4 example. Surely that hand would have bid 3♥?
neilkaz
Bidding looks fine to me. I have no aces and no interest in ♠ so I'll just bid 5♣ and hope PD's doesn't get overly excited. Note that I could pass the X of 4♥ and then pull 4♠ to 5♣ or bid 4NT at some point, so PD should realize that from where I sit, I am not interested in slam unless he's really got the good and is control rich. I also could have XX'd 4♥ which to me shows first round control. Anyhow, I won't let us be misslead by the likely silly double of 4♥ and am happy that East didn't muddy the waters earlier with a preemptive raise in ♥. 5♣
effervesce
I would like bid 4S as a cue, but I think the auction may go wrong. I would pass the double. I don't have a heart control, but I have too good a hand to bid 5C. If partner is interested in slam I definitely have extras, if he is looking at controls in every suit he'll know what to do. I don't like cueing shortage in partner's suits anyway. 4♠ should show a spade honor if it was a cue. In this auction a 4♠ bid would seem to be an offer to play there in any case, so 5♣ looks clearcut.
bergen
I would like bid 5♣ instead of 4♣.it describes the hand clearly, long and good club suit , short spade.
