Next version of BBO

Here are a few features that have already been added to the latest development version of the software. Assuming nothing goes horribly wrong, these features are certain to be included in the next release:

1. The ability for the player who made requested a claim/undo/redeal to cancel that request.

2. The ability to kibitz only one player.

3. The ability to kibitz only your partner when you are the dummy.

I will announce more features that will appear in the next version as soon as I think I have them working.

Hi Fred,

Thanks for your excellent S/W.

May I give some more suggestions.

1. When the host resets the score, all the previous

hand records in the MOVIE will also disappear.

But I think that the records should be kept until

the table is closed, so the players and the kibitzers

   can review.

2. A player may want to give his seat to another

player but he still wants to stay and kibitz. The

current version does not provide such a function

"Leave your seat". What he can do is to leave

the table first, and rejoin. I find it rather stupid.

3. Two groups of players may want to play TEAM-GAME

concurrently. They would play the same set of

boards. (of coz, these boards are not played by

them before.) The scores of the two tables are then

compared in IMPs. And when 2 tables are joined for

a TG, the players and the kibitzers are not allowed

to chat with those in the other table.

   Thanks for your attention.

Thanks for your suggestions, JQ.

Suggestion 1 is unlikely to happen any time soon as it would be difficult to implement given the current design of the software.

Suggestion 2 has already been implemented. Just click on your own seat. You can thereby leave you seat and still remain at the table.

Suggestion 3 (the implementation of 2-table IMP matches) is one of our highest development priorities. I am not sure if this will make it into the next release, but it will be done eventually. I expect this feature and the implementation of tournaments on BBO to be the main focus of my work during the next few months.

Great, super, halleluja!  I'm  :) that you decided to add the kibitz features. I find it terribly difficult to figure out how I would bid or play a hand when I can see the whole deal (lack of imagination, or something  :)).

Now, can you implement a faster Internet connection for me  ;)

is there any estimation on a release date of the BBO software?  All of the changes you have mentioned in this thread and others sound great!!!

Uday and I have a goal of releasing a new version before the upcoming ACBL Nationals (which starts on March 6 I think). We have a little more work to do and a lot more testing before we know for sure if this goal will be realized. So I am hopeful the release will come before March 6, but I cannot make any promises.

Our hope is the next version after this one will include functionality for online tournaments, but this is unlikely to appear for at least a couple of months.

  • 3 weeks later...

Fred: I am the poster to TS who inadvertantly got into chat when I was trying to send a private message to hom. I am also the guy who ran the Back Shop for the original Bridgerama when the Bridge Olympiad was held on Miami Beach. This experience makes me admire the job you have done in the theater. Since I am now a paraplegic it makes me extremely glad to see your live casts of the big matches.

However, I do have one change to recommend in the theater software for the next version. Your IM feature is also excellent, but it was coming in in such a manner that it was blanking out the bidding while it was on the screen. My thought is to but either the IM feature or the Bidding Box BELOW the East hand so that appeals for a partner will not affecft the concentration of the Kibitzers on events. Just a minor touch.

Sincerely,

MAC GLASGOW

Future features i would like to see:

Three rooms for:

novice/beginner.

intermediate/advance.

expert/world class.

having one huge room is not how real bridge is played.

have separate rooms for different standards.

players can always choose where to play

On undo's

I have only ever requested this privilidge when i did not play a card & the card played itself~is this a bug or what??

Love the site & friendly players~better than the others.

Brilliant software & graphics.

Any thought of programming in "bots" if only for self instruction/practise.

I can not find the superlatives to express how good this client is. I consistently run the client with other high-end software (mathematical software saps A LOT of clock from the CPU) and yet it's stable and coherent.
