dbsboy
1. 1♦- (4♠) - X () = interference a. What is this double called? b. How much is needed to make a double like this? is it enough holding ♠AX ♥KJXXX ♦XXX ♣JXX? because he strongly feels that opponents are not making 4♠. 2. 1st seat, Holding ♠KXXXXXX ♥XX ♦XX ♣KX Should we preempt with 2♠/3♠? Does vulnerability matter?
effervesce
1a. X here is played in more than one way. Some play the X here to be values/card showing, others as penalty, and others as a responsive double (takeout). b. Yes, that's probably decent hand enough to make a X. 2. Preempting strongly depends on the vulnerability AND position. In 1st seat, your preempts should be pretty much textbook, though they may be slightly aggressive. 2nd seat, they should be constructive; eg AQJxxx xxx x xxx would be normal. 3rd seat, anything goes-you want to waste space in front of the person who's got the most. I would open that hand 2♠. The suit is too shabby for 3♠, and has poor distribution (7222 hands play like 6 card suits).
pclayton
1. It's not penalty, thats for sure. Most play it as cards. Ax KJxxx Jxx xxx isn't quite enough for me. 2. Sure I'd preempt it. Probably 2♠ at most colors.
andy_h
1a) The double shows cards - mainly takeout orientated and not penalty (Like if I had a hand that only had SAQT in terms of high cards, I am passing)1b) That's quite an awful hand indeed..I think I pass 2) I'd probably go with 2♠ but 3♠ if I'm 1st seat favourable. 7222 is an awful shape. The seat position and the colours are the most important factors for a preempt. Of course your suit quality/shape will take into account. hotShot
1a) Double over a high preempt is the only chance to tell partner about your values, if you don't have a very long suit of your own. But you should have some defense tricks, because partner is allowed to penalty pass your dbl.In this case you should have GF-values to make a dbl. b ) Would you call this a GF? If you are not playing a strong ♦-System, I guess it's not strong enough. 2. In 1st or 3rd seat I would open 2♠, in 2nd seat I would consider to pass. Guest Jlall
Card showing, and your example hand is too weak. Vulnerability etc would matter a lot to me, I would open 2S except 1st seat red/white (pass), or second seat anything but w/r (pass), or third seat red/white (pass). I am probably more conservative than most with that type of hand though.
655321
2. With your example hand in first seat I would open 3♠, except w/r I like a 4♠ opening. Yes, you would like better shape, but this is all they gave you.

That's like the first post you've ever made that I've strongly disagreed with

You're a bit on the bouncy side of life. w/r and 3rd seat and Kxxxxxx actually means KT9xxxx and opps are the type that won't sell out to 3S, maybe I'd join you - but not otherwise.
