2C then diamonds. I don't think 3D is enough.

would opener pass 2c though with minimum? because 2c is non forcing right?

2C is a cuebid since you are bidding the suit LHO opened and partner made a t/o X of.

2 for me, 2nd choice is 3 but agree that I am a bit too strong for that.

I am quite shocked at those who bid only 2 here as we seem more than an ace stronger than that.

They posted that before an edit (where an ace was added)

TY..now I understand, perhaps deleting this thread and starting over with the correct hand will better give the OP more meaningful results.

The poll is corrupted I guess. 2 is bizarre.

I think 3 is fine. Where are the hearts? This might one of those hands where pard made an offshape x with a 4423 for instance. I also don't think our J looks real good either.

2 --> 3. How high is this a force for you?

game or 4D I guess.

Gnome and I have been having a lot of discussion about how high a cue bid followed by a minor forces. I like 4m personally. Frequently a minor suit oriented hand wants to try for 3N but be able to bail out.

Awkward hand.

I went for the crude 3NT.

Not absolutely sure where everyone else expected to end up.

3NT?? You don't have a spade stopper, if you want to be in 3NT you've just wrong-sided the contract.... 2 --> 3 for me.

in theory the suit you need to stop on this sequence is clubs, the suit partner denied. This is at least true for 1NT overcalls, 3NT might be another story, but it is reasonable.

This problem is a reason that I was convinced by a great partner of mine to switch tactics. It seems to be quite effective to have a two-way cuebid structure (2 with heart focus, 2 with diamond focus), handling all spade-based hands through the double. Not only does this avert some damage from preemption, but it sets the tone of the auction in the right direction immediately.
