To the 3N bidders (or 4N):

You might get a spade lead and win your dry King. How clever of you. If pard fits either of these minors and gives you a source of tricks for NT, you probably have 6 of a minor.

If RHO leads an off-suit which he should anyway, you have to work pretty hard for 9 tricks.

Heck. I bid 3NT with almost the exact same hand once with a small stiff in spades. I had only eight tricks off the top and had to give up a trick in a side suit to LHO late in the hand to establish the ninth trick, which worked. They still did not lead spades.

Maybe you were playing one of the 99.9% (or just 99%) weak pairs on BBO at the time.

X of course.

I think that a 3Nt bid with confidence is as good as a X. However i dont usually use the bag of tricks when i have a perfect bid available. Also when i have 2 close decisions that i believe to be equals i tend to follow the field unless im in a very big events.

Not exactly accurate.

The claim was the "6m" is better than 3NT. 6 has problems after spade Ace, spade Queen, a likely defense.. :P

True, that same defense will also beat 3NT, to death. But, it will not happen.

Plus, I doubt that 6 is reached after a double.

So, I think the idiot bid actually wins. B)

Good guess Phil, indeed 6m was better than 3NT.

Saying that 6m is better or might be better then 3Nt is a bit pointless. I have 21 points in my hand so im not expecting partner to be strong enough to make a slam try or to leap to 5m. So in practical term there is no road that lead to 6m.
