there comes up a NYT editorial encouraging GW Bush to veto a bill championed by bipartisan experts and the democratic majority leaders, that was passed with a huge majority in both Congress and Senate.

Well I guess farming politics is just as messed up in the US as on the other side of the Atlantic.

At the very least we can run anyone a very strong race for the title of most effed up farm policy.

1) Farmers are the sanest of the insane in USA

2) USa farm politics as insane in Europe, or Asia well ok maybe only 80% insane. You can debate how much. :)

3) based on my recent trip to France....France 100% insane....USA.......80%

4) USA 80% insane...Europe ......100% :)

5) Asia...less than 40%

I will claim the EU is worse. I will appoint the obvious neutral arbiters (Brits), and win the bet by mile.

Seems strange to have a bill for farmers when there are only 3 of them left living in the U.S. - better to call this the Corporate Farms Subsidy Bill.

 

I assume the threat of veto is because eggs make poor weapons.

Can you imagine the outrage if even one-half of that handout went instead to make life better for the children of single moms?

Yes, farming politics is insane in all OECD countries with the possible exception of New Zealand. Actually I think the US farmers are less dependent on subsidies and trade protection than are their European, Australian and Japanese colleagues.

The squeeky (or rather crooked) wheel gets the grease and only the powerful are able to make a peep under the current circumstances.

 

The US is now in the circus maximus phase of its empire and just too bad for the palliated, supine and obese populace that comprises the majority. The winners claim the spoils and the losers get the spoiled. Always has been and unfortunately likely always will be.

Looks like Hil(Billie) is hanging in there, awaiting the backwash from the Resko trial......once he is convicted there will be all kinds of effects on Obama's candidacy. Wonder if the judge/prosecutors in the case (Ken Starr stable ring a bell? To say nothing of the Bush family appointments.) are doing their jobs...

 

I guess that Barack can always hope to be the veep...
