mcphee
If I have some form of asking bid to discover if partner holds 3 or 4 trumps for the raise, I would use that. If not I like a simple 3D to see what happens next. Yes I agree with passing this hand in first. If I held 4S and short H I might reconsider. andy_h
Agree with the pass and now I hope I have 2S as an asking bid to see what type of 2H raise partner did. If partner will never raise me with 3card support then I bid game.
655321
I don't object to the initial pass. Like other posters, I will bid 4♥ opposite a 4 card raise. With no methods, I probably bid 4♥ anyway - partner could have passed 1♥ with 3 card support in a very minimum hand.
the hog
Either 2S if that is an ask, else 3D. Not an immediate butcher's bid of 4H.
Codo
How do I invite? With short suit trial bids? 2 SpadeWith a relay to ask the shape? (4 or 3 card raise) Use itWith long suit trial bids? 3 ClubWith 3 Heart? Oh well, okayI am Gromov, I always blast to game? Okay 4 Heart then, but only then. skjaeran
I'd have opened 1♣. What I rebid now depends upon agreements. Playing some kind of asking relay, that's my bid.Failing that I just make a natural NF bid of 3♦, showing exactly 4c♥.With some I play short suit game tries. But I prefer 5c trump for that - partner might often have raised on 3.

cjames
I would have opened, at the first look I probably would open 1♦, I would dislike rebidding 1NT over partners 1♠ response, but 1♦-1♠-2♣ is not a thing of beauty either, and that also sounds like 9 card in minors either way, so I guess I would end up opening 1♣ and just have to make myself rebidding 1NT if partner should bid spades. (and after all I do have some stoppers in all of the other suits) I would do as the other posters now, use a relay if I have that available, or short suit/long suit trial. P_Marlowe
Hi, invite, although given your diamonds bidding game is not the worst crime, and I may bid 4H instead of 3H tommorow. With kind regardsMarlowe

Partner shows a full opener by raising hearts , you have a double fit... Bill Also, I would open the hand most of the time.

Are you sure that partner has 4 hearts for his raise? Also, even if your partner has 4 hearts, your "double fit" may be marginal. Partner opened 1♦, but he doesn't need much of a diamond suit to do that. In the extreme case, he could have xxx.
mike777
We are not sure yet if opener has 4 hearts. I think blasting to 4H over 2h is a bit much.
kenrexford
I'll invite game by bidding 4♥. I'm not concerned about a 4-3 heart fit. Partner will not have three hearts for this auction.
dbsboy
Actually, partner does have 4 Card ♥. Lets say you make a game try, i.e. 3♦. Partner bids 3♥, showing 4 cards but declining the game try. Still bid game? I will later show his hand

Codo
If I invite and he declies, why should I bid game? I may force to game with this hand if pd promised 4 Hearts, but if I judged to invite, I would respect his descission.
