I would not open 3♣, but I don't feel strongly between 1♣ (Good 6 card suit, good shape, 10HCP) and Pass (No defense at all). I admit I would likely open 1♣ at the table. xcurt Posted May 15, 2008 Report Share Posted May 15, 2008 Pass. Really hate 1C. This hand can bid later safely and bidding now will cause partner to misjudge a subsequent competitive auction. Bidding 1C is anti-preemptive -- it makes it easier for LHO to find a call. Opening 1C will make it hard to know if partner has 4 or 5 H, which affects the strain I want to play. My partners like to bid 2NT or 3NT when I bid one of a minor, and this is not my idea of a 2nd seat preempt - it plays well in 3 suits. 3rd seat I'm bidding 3 clubs.
