Hand of the year

The conclusion that I draw was that the redouble was 100% wrong, but you got away with it.

You were about to play in 6x, either making or down one, and the opponents are cold for 7. By redoubling, you gave them another chance to find 7 which, fortunately, they didn't find. So all is well that ends well.

I'd bid 6S on the first round and not redouble.

Then you find partner with void xxxx xxxx AJxxx :) And with him on lead, you find you can't beat 7 and you are cold for 7 B)

Then par is 7S doubled, so 6S should be a small swing in.

I hate redoubling. You could easily go 2 off. As far as the opps never running, I dunno but if I Xed a guy who bid to 6C by himself because it sounded like he might be saccing and he REDOUBLED me if I didn't have black suit tricks I'd sure as hell think he was making and run. Even if you assign a run a 5 % chance, and assuming when they do run then it is not worth it. Also XXing could cost more than people are talking about if your teammates have a result like -200 (7D down, possibly Xed), or +500 (7S X -2) (now the extra points for going down far outweigh the extra points for making). I really cannot imagine risking such a good spot for a possibly marginally better spot when there are too many disasters (-2 or a run) that can happen.
