RKC in meckwell's CC

I just read rodwell-meckstroth's convention card, and i found some words like this: " 4S often RKC for H. For MIN, 4 of cheapest unfocused MAJ=RKC. Can follow with asking bids. "

I'm not so good at English and bridge, can anybody explain it to me what "4 of cheapest unfocused MAJ" means? unfoused means unbid or bid by only one side? if ♥ is unfocused suit, then 4♥ will be RKC for both ♣ and ♦? Thanks in advance.

For 4 MIN means if you have agreed upon a minor. Four of an "unfocused major" means that when you have agreed upon minors as trump suit, if you bid 4 of a major that "can't be to play", then that is RKC blackwood for the minor...

 

Take an auction like,

 

1H - 2C

3C - 3N

4H <<--- 4H might be if nothing else, to play. But 4S could never be to play. I think they might mean this by unfocused.

 

Anyway, this is called kickback and generally it is four of the suit immediately above your agreed suit. Thus spades when you agree hearts. The unfocused major comments seems to be a way to try to deal with the possibility one partner or the other might want to get out of the minor and back intor a major bid previously.

Thanks Ben. I know the kickback RKC you have mentioned, but the RKC asking suit is generally fixed (for example 4D always RKC if Club is agreed trump suit).

I still have questions about meckwell's system, why he said unfocused major as RKC for minor trump suit, rather than 4 of cheapest unfocused suit aboved the agreed trump suit as the RKC asking.

Take the auction you have listed as example.

1H - 2C

3C - 3N

4D here is clearly not to play, so why not use it as RKC, which is cheaper and you have more chances to stop at 4NT if you want.

If the auction like,

1C - 1H

2D - 3C

3NT ?

now responder may have to use 4S as RKC for Club suit because both 4D and 4H are ambiguous.

Meckwell plays a 2/1 GF that is forcing to 3NT or four of a minor. Due to this, they don't use 4m as Redwood like I do. Also, they treat 4M after a runout as to play. So to make a slam go they have to bid "unbid" suit to make a slam try.

 

Often in their auctions they use 4♥ as slam try for ♣ and 4♠ as slam try for ♦. A sliding Redwood of sorts.
