There's a few things that are a bit annoying when I commentate (or don't):

 

If my 'microphone' is turned on and I'm not commentating but watching vugraph, in order to listen to people, I need the '+++' in my profile. However, if I have the '+++' in my profile, I run the risk of accidentally speaking to the entire room. This has happened to nearly every commentator who does it on a frequent basis, and some very embarrassing things have popped out.

 

Another irritation is getting team invites when we commentate.

 

I don't know what the solution is. Perhaps there is a way to grant a new color to approved commentators with a user controlled toggle. The user will have the ability to switch on and off their own 'microphone' and change their color. Team invites would automatically be refused if one is in commentary mode.

 

Can this be done?

Noted. I could easily auto reject team invites sent to anyone who is both at a vug table and a commentator. The other one is a little trickier.

No, +++ doesn't make able to talk to entire room, that's managed separately.

I think Phil means that when commentators are 'ungagged', they will be able to talk to the room. That is correct, and it won't change until they are 'gagged' again, or after next maintenance when everyone is 'gagged' automatically.

 

In an ideal world I would have time to 'gag' all commentators after every session. The world is not ideal and that is not practically possible for a number of reasons.

 

Uday and I are working on something practical that will make it easier in various respects.

Kinda unrelated, but I love the idea of being able to auto reject team invites. Even yahoo has "decline all invitations" listed so you don't get the annoying popups if you don't want them. Really like that idea for everyone, it is super annoying to get a team invite every 5 minutes.

Perhaps even better for those who (like Justin) do actually play a fair number of team games woud be the option to reject all invites except from friends. I'd suggest something like three checkboxes:

 

Ignore team/tourney invites: []From enemies []From neutrals []From friends

BBOFlash automatically rejects invitations from enemies (after a random short delay so it would look like automatic to the person who issued the invitation).

 

Sorry but this rates to be the best we will be able to do on this front in the near term.

I think that the thing that has most often caused me to send a private message to the entire room is that if you're typing a chat message when a hand is completed, and return to the message after you've been bounced back to the table screen for the new board, the chat message addressee is changed back to "this room." Often when my message was almost complete, I just finish it and click on send without realizing it's no longer going to the intended addressee.

 

And slightly off-topic, but would this be a suitable time to mention how nice it would be if ungagged people show in a different color at the top of the kibitzers list?
