Al_U_Card
The Gettysburg redress Four planes and seven years ago our fatheads brought forth on that continent a new century, conceived in libation, and dedicated to the proposition that oil men are created better. Now we are engaged in a great foreign war, testing whether that nation, or any nation, ill-conceived and so decimated, can long endure. We are set up on the great oil-field of that war. We have come to desicrate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who there gave their lives that that nation might give. It is altogether foul and improper that we should do this. But, without any common sense, we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not hallow—this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggle there, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to pad or contract. The world will surely note, and long remember what we say there, and it will never forget what we did there. It is for us the living, richly, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought there have thus far so sadly advanced. It is really for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from the dishonored dead we take increased diversion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we there highly realize that these dead shall but have died in vain—that this nation's money God, shall cause a stillbirth of freedom—and that dominion over the people, by the bankers, for the oilmen, shall not perish from the earth. Al_U_Card
Thanks. I understand that it is pretty insulting to the Americans (especially from a foreigner) but not nearly as insulting as the actions of their administration to them and the rest of the world ( us foreigners). Winstonm
I don't find it an insult. Powerful people are not simply the province of the U.S.
