A request about posting

Recommended Posts

Great! This thread has turned into another Who's Who thread. Now all newcomers to these forum would need to do is to read this thread, and the other thread and every silly signature people can conjure up... that's all.

Is it really that hard? If you want to be friendly, feel free to use the real name, but for the sake of people who are new (there will always be such people) at least also refer to the login name. Especially so in the Beginner/Intermediate forum.

For instance: I disagree with Ron (aka The_Hog).

or something like that.

Including the login name won't make your post any less friendly. The intention of this thread was to avoid causing confusion in the reader's (of threads in this forum) mind and not to stop people from using real names.

I don't think anyone would confuse any of my posts with any made by Ron Klinger, even if he did happen to post here. (He doesn't.) :P

I agree, however, I prefer names rather than nicks.

but but but if you prefer real names to nicknames, why don't you have your real name in your bbo username?

I feel that if someone gives themselves a nickname unrelated to their actual name then, for some reason, they don't want people to know who they are, so I would tend not to use their real name even if I knew what it was.

I doubt anyone is uncertain who I am. Unless I'm actually someone completely different and Frances has no idea what gets posted in her name...

Basically because I like Mollo's The Hog as a character and love the Menagerie books. However I have never made a secret of my real name.

There can be more practical reasons. Some online bridge servers have a quite low limit on the number of characters in a user name. One of BBO's main competitors (the one that everyone used before BBO existed) allows a measly eight, which is too short to accommodate my full name, so I am "Gnasher" on there. For consistency I prefer to use the same name on all online bridge servers.

Yes.

As I started to post, I liked Chandler / Hammett.

And I have used the same username ever since.

The only problems arose, when I forget my passowrds

and there was no functionality to recover it easily,

leading to spelling modifications.

With kind regards

Marlowe

Because on BBO, I want people to email jtfanclub@yahoo.com. I don't want people trying to email matthew@yahoo.com, because I don't know who that is, but it isn't me. Pretty easy to remember my email address if it's the same as my handle.

Frankly, I'd rather have the two identities separate. I'd rather know whether somebody thinks I'm an idiot or I just bid badly. :-)

If using other people's first names make it a clique, then it's a clique that anybody can join at any time. I like those cliques.

Lol I try to not be mean to people for no reason but you are making it so hard! Whining about this reminds me of congress spending all it's time interviewing baseball players while we are in the middle of a war.

Anyone ever watch Flavor of Love on VH1? It's so disappointing when the girls get kicked off and you learn their real names.

Hi, My name is Rik. Feel free to use my real name or my nickname.

One reason why I use my nickname and sign with my real first name is that I don't want everybody to find out that I am posting here. Particularly I want to keep my bridge life separated from my professional life.

Rik / Trinidad

Sorry, I don't get your reference. I don't watch that $hit. (Sorry, it is hard not to be mean LOL!)

And LOL!, this is not whining, it is just surprise...

Whining would be, "don't treat me like my mother".. :P

The above quoted post was mainly to clarify the intent that the request was not to stop using real names, but to make the reference clearer (and also to show my surprise)

The posts you make will probably still be there in 2015 . So if you can make it a little bit more clearer, then maybe it will still be of some use then.

I am done with this thread. I was just wasting mine and some of the others' time... I apologize for that.
