A request about posting

Recommended Posts

Hi,

When you refer to people in posts, please use the login name and not the real name (or both if you do want to use the real name), especially if there is no immediate way to connect the two without reading the whole Who's Who thread.

For instance (I think I know) The_Hog's real name is Ron. See this thread: http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=25235 but people who don't might think Ron Klinger is being referred to in some posts (his name was mentioned too).

Thanks.

Posters can add their real name in their signature, or in the "member name" on the left.

Not everyone can add their name on the left.

If you put your name in your signature, some of us don't see it (because we don't view signatures). Some long signatures prompted me to turn that option off a while ago.

That's your choice and your problem, then...

At least no one will confuse my real name with anyone else's  :)

I may trump you there. :)

ETA: I agree with everyone. It's friendlier to use first names, especially if one knows the people in real life.

However, it does create a clique-like atmosphere where those who don't know which name corresponds with each username are outsiders. That doesn't seem really friendly.

I have no solution.

Hi I'm Phil.

Not Phil Donahue, Phil Spector, Phil Mickelsen, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Collins or Dr. Phil.

Please don't confuse me with anyone else named Phil.

Thanks for all the re-Phils!

My choice about the signatures. But, not my choice about the name on the left.

Well, I really really like first names. As a compromise I'll give some first names here for those who care:

Elianna = Elianna

pclayton = Phil (or Clayton)

jdonn = Josh (or Jdown)

mikeh = Mike

Fluffy = Gonzalo (or any of about a dozen misspellings)

mike777 = Mike

cherdano = Arend

jlall = Justin

awm = Adam

sceptic = Wayne

kenrexford = Ken (or Rexford)

fred = Fred

Uday = Uday

Rain = Rain

franceshinden = Frances

The Hog = Ron

Echognome = Matt (or gnome)

jchiu = Jason (or ch00)

jtfanclub = Matthew

42 = Caren

TimG = Tim

jillybean = Kathryn

Winstonm = Winston

gnasher = Andy

matmat = matmat (according to Elianna)

P_Marlowe = Marlowe

gwnn = Csaba

ewj = Ed

Mickyb = Mike

Brianshark = Brian

Whereagles = Nuno

BenLessard = Ben

Free = Frederick

cardsharp = Paul

keylime = Dwayne

Gerben42 = Gerben

mikestar = Mike

kgr = Koen

Blofeld = Owen

Apollo81 = Noble

Rogerclee = Roger

hrothgar = Richard

inquiry = Ben

Ritong = Henri

653321 = anonymous, male, 40's

Rob F = Rob

joshs = Josh

kfay = Kevin

Helene_t= Helene (or Helenuh)

han = Han

If this is the in-crowd then it doesn't seem like the bouncer is doing his job very well. I'd say more than half of these people should have been stopped at the door.

I don't think anyone would confuse any of my posts with any made by Ron Klinger, even if he did happen to post here. (He doesn't.) :D

I agree, however, I prefer names rather than nicks.

Hey! There's a lot of nice Nicks.

Jolly Ole Saint Nick.

Mr. Nolte. Well...

Maybe not so many.
