navit
In general what type of hand is needed to overcall after opponents opened with a 2/3 level weak bid?
andy_h
An opening hand, or something that's offensive. (Eg. RHO opens 3C you can overcall 3H with something like Axx KQT98xx xx x)The main factors that should be taken into account is the vulnerability, length in the opponent's suit (if a bid is between bidding your suit or a t/o X), and sometimes the suit quality. P_Marlowe
Like a overcall on two level, after they opened at the one level. With kind regardsMarlowe
awm
The guideline I usually give for a three-level overcall is about 14 hcp plus with a five-card suit or 11 hcp with a six-card suit. In general it's good to push somewhat with shortage in the suit opponents opened and to be a bit conservative with length there, because generally if you and partner both have length in their suit it's bad, and because partner is more likely to protect with a double if you have length in their suit and he has shortness.
