So yesterday you are playing with Csaba and get a headache after about 10 hands (no offense) so you call 'last hand'.

Naturally you are dealt:

x void AKQTTxxxxx Ax

I have played a LOT of bridge in my life, but this is only the 2nd time I've been dealt a 10 bagger (and I'm not counting goulash). Both times it was in diamonds.

Got a strategy here, genius?

Sorry, you took Schenken 2 and 4N (specific aces) off the card at the last minute just before the session.

I'd much rather hold two 7s than Ts. Presuming we have 150 honors, then I will just open 6. We may get the wrong lead, etc etc. I think investigation on this hand will be difficult, even more so when we aren't playing with a regular partner, and even more so when we have a headache and want to log off. Maybe I can claim at trick 1.

Well, it is the last hand, so nobody will be laughing at you for the rest of the session... so maybe do what a friend of mine did to me during a midnight speedball swiss many years ago, when drinking at the table during the game was completely normal, if not mandatory. He held void void Kxx AKQJxxxxxx dealer red v red and passed.

His LHO opened 2 and his partner, a much younger, foolish and slightly inebriated version of me, overcalled 2N. It went 4 7 P P x P P to me

I had been worried that my hand wasn't good enough to preempt over 2 opposite a passed partner so had made my own 'tactical' call: I held, for my 2N, J9x AQxxxxxx x x

Tempted tho I was, to run, I left 7 x'd in. The opps got confused, as who wouldn't, and allowed us out for only -2. I'm only slightly embarrassed to say that we won a lot of imps on the board for reasons that are now hazy in my mind.

So the tactic of passing solid 10 card suits has been empirically proven, so far, to be a good one.

Admittedly my sample size is small.
