gwnn
p-1♦-3♦(us]-3♥X-3♠-p-p-X-4♦-? question 1. what are partner's two doubles? question 2. You hold KxxxxxAKQ9xxx at favorable IMPs. Do you agree with your first two actions? what now?
gnasher
Quite a complex question, in fact. In order: Penalties Penalties No - The idea is that partner provides a diamond stop and I provide everything else, rather than that partner provides a diamond stop, a heart stop, a spade stop and two quick tricks. Abstain
han
I play that 3D is preemptive with diamonds so all this doesn't apply. If 3D does indeed ask for a stop then: - It is not appropriate with this hand, I would just bid 2C. - Partner's doubles are penalty. - I abstain from the question about what to do now as I would never have bid 3D. mikeh
Partner's doubles are penalty, aided no doubt by the fact that we implied some stuff in both majors... after all, we said: I have 9 tricks if you stop diamonds' which implies that we don't expect them to run either or both majors. I would never, ever consider 3♦. It is a gross misbid. I have NO assurance of 9 tricks opposite the diamond Ace.. and the opps rarely lead the minor on these auctions if they have a plausible alternative. It is an example of a little knowledge (the use of 3♦ to ask for a stopper) being dangerous.. or the propensity of players to want to use their shiny, sexy, new gimmicks even tho they don't have the hand for it.. it is called lack of discipline if done knowingly. As for what to do now, obviously I bid 5♣. Partner should have 9 or 10 cards in the majors, a near opening and either a void or stiff diamond and slam interest opposite what he expects my hand to look like... which is nothing remotely close to what I actually have. Or he thinks I showed diamonds :)
P_Marlowe
I may wrongly remember the convention you seemed to playas you bid 3D, but should you not have at least one stopperoutside your long suit, which could be any of the 3 possible suits? Or was the single king supposed to be your stopper? The above should answer your question, what i thinkabout the first bid you made.I think the 2nd bid is flawless, .... Regarding partners first double: no idea, noise, values, I dont believe there exists a hand, but maybe you show me his hand.Similar answer with regards to partners 2nd double. Now Pass. Hopefully partner believes he has bid his hand, after passing firstand doubling twice. If he passes as well, no accident happened. With kind regardsMarlowe.
