42
Hi all,we often practise against the brothers GIB. Recently we/they had this hand and auction: [hv=d=w&v=n&w=sa754hk10653d3c1073&e=skq86hadj95ca9652]266|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] auction (W = dealer): pass pass 1♣ pass1♥ pass 1♠ pass2♠ pass pass 3♦3♠ pass 3NT pass4♠ all pass One can click on GIB's bids and the explanation comes up.3NT was explained as: 3+ C;3- H; 4-5 S; 15+ HCP; 15- points; likely stop in D, 7+ relay points. We wonder what relay points are (the contract was 2 off). Can anyone help, please? ___________________________________________ OT: Thx jillybean :) ♥
ArtK78
I assume that 3♦ was bid by your side as a balancing bid. In that case, 3NT was a typical GIB lunacy. As for the explanation, that makes no sense either. Never heard of relay points.
ulven
Relay points means A = 3, K = 2, Q = 1.
42
Thx so far! :) I don't quite understand this GIB: '7+ relay points' is certainly a correct message, but for what is this relevant? Did this thing want to go to slam? Since it is a machine, there must have been something within the bidding sequence which made it love its hand a bit too much :P I admit that I have no idea in this case :)
Finch
There's clearly something screwy if it can come up with "15+ HCP" and "15- points" when it has a 14-count...
pclayton
GIB is fine in the early stages on an auction. It's card play is usually quite good, but I have seen it make some bonehead plays. There's several areas where GIB just falls apart. One is when either side balances. If you balance with a GIB partner, you will frequently be hung. GIB does not seem to differentiate between an auction like: (1S) pass (2S) 3C and (1S) pass (1N) pass(2S) pass (pass) 3C Anothe other is cuebidding. GIB has problems making intelligent decision in a cooperative auction. I can't say I've ever been passed in a cue bid, but I wouldn't be surprised if it has happened. (*)Due to those errors and due to the simulation aspect, the explanation given does not always match, espesiallyin the later stages. And of course GIB will assume, that you play similaras GIB, at least those assumption will be made in thesimulations. (*) BBO has started a project to eliminate some of the more serious errors.I am not sure how far this project came. http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?sho...371&hl=Ginsberg With kind regardsMarlowe
