rogerclee
Here is a debate between matmat and me over what constitutes a normal preempt. White vs Red, IMPs, First Seat ♠Qx ♥987xxx ♦QTxx ♣x What is your call?
whereagles
Pass. Wrong ODR for preempting.
Free
With some I open these 3♥ :)
Codo
The suit is much to good (a great sequence) and the overall strength (TWO Queens AND a Ten) too big to consider this a preempt in first seat. I cannot decide yet between 1 ♥ 2 ♣ and 6 NT. Sorry but in first seat, even white/red this is no preempt for me.

P_Marlowe
Pass, wtp? You could have made it more interesting, if youwould have added the 6 and 5 to the suit ... An opening, even if you open with a preempt, contains alwaysa constructive message, you may decide under certaincircumstances, that you can ignore this constructive message, but not in first seat, even if you are green vs. red. With kind regardsMarlowe
hrothgar
Playing normal methods I'd pass If I had a two suited opening (say 2♥ = 5+ Hearts and a 4+ card minor) I'd give serious consideration to this
Gerben42
Even thinking about opening this hand is an overbid (barring special agreements).

helene_t
With some I open these 3♥ :) Me too, in one partnership this is a maximum 3♥ opening under these conditions.
Elianna
It's a normal junior preempt; I've seen/done worse. Why do you even need to make a poll? You probably knew at the time that it was risky and aggressive, and you decided to do it anyway.
mikegill
I would preempt this at MPs, but not at IMPs.
helene_t
I would preempt this at MPs, but not at IMPs. Why? I would argue the opposite: at IMPs, the favorable vulnerability means that there is more to gain by jamming opps' auction than to lose by jamming our own. This calls for less disciplined preempts. At MPs, a wrong decision in a constructive auction is equally expensive at all vulnerabilities.
neilkaz
Pass, wanting to at least be slightly disciplined with a 2♥ preempt and noting that it often does little to shut good opps out of a ♠ game unless PD fits and can raise to 4 and the opps don't then bid 4♠
PassedOut
Sometimes a hand comes up where you wish you were playing something else. In this case I'd like to be able to preempt without misleading partner, but that would not be the situation. Agreeing to preempt with hands like this makes it difficult for partner to compete and lead accurately than when your preempt is more normal. pclayton
Pass. I love to preempt at green, but there's a lot of red flags here: 1. Your suit is great for Razz, but bad for bridge. 2. A heart lead from pard is death from AQ, Kx, Kxx or Qx.
jdonn
Here is a debate between matmat and me over what constitutes a normal preempt. White vs Red, IMPs, First Seat ♠Qx ♥987xxx ♦QTxx ♣x What is your call? I don't think it's a normal preempt but I would definitely preempt with it, 2♥. At this vul in particular, although to some extent at all vuls, I care more about playing strength than suit quality. In other words when I'm 6-4 in the range and w/r I will open 2♥ even on 765432. In fact if forced to choose I prefer 2♥ here than if the hand was xx AQxxxx xxx xx.
rogerclee
You probably knew at the time that it was risky and aggressive, and you decided to do it anyway. No, I thought it was normal B). Wow, 6-4 gets no love around here. When is the last time one of you actually got nailed at these colors? Is it actually bad if partner bids 4♥? I think the lead concern is the only big one, but RHO is at least reasonably likely to declare.

ArtK78
It is a matter of style. There are many players who would never dream of opening 2♥ or [shudder] 3♥ on these cards. There are others (count me among them) who consider this to be a routine 2♥ opening bid with at least one partner. I would never consider opening 2♥ at "real" IMPs, but at IMP pairs I would do it. matmat
i voted for option 3. this makes me a conflicted individual? since roger insists on putting me on the spot, i felt pass was a better action. (though to be fair, i may have been resulting, and if so, i apologize)
han
I'm with matmat that opening 2H here is winning bridge. We got the shape, we got the strength, the colors are right, we preempt.
