USViking
[hv=d=n&n=s752hak9532dt8ca7&w=sht86dq2ckqt98543&e=s986hq74dj9763cj2&s=sakqjt43hjdak54c6]399|300|Scoring: IMPBBO hand: Bidding (I was South): N: passE: passS: 2♣W: 3♣N:3♥(opponents then all pass)S: 4NTN: 5♠?S: 6♠N: 7♥?S: 7♠N: 7NT? K♣ led. Two questions: Question (1) Can it be made? I've stared at this hand for a while and I still can't tell there is a reasonable possibility of it making. I don't think there is but I am not a good player. Question (2) Was I rude to my partner in the following exchange? Immediately after the opening lead my partner posted "Claim". I ignored him. He then posted "Claim" again. I then replied: "Be quiet". Partner then said "Bye" and left. My next post, which was on the subject of my departed partner, was definitely rude, but no need to go into that. [/hv]
rogerclee
The 4NT is weird, but regardless, N should pass 7♠. In practice, on the run of the spades, east will pitch a club. Since he also has to pitch a heart, this will expose west to a ♥-♣ squeeze. I would say that the vast majority of East defenders would pitch that club. East can kill the squeeze by saving his club, pitching hearts instead. As for the manners, most random players on BBO are awful, both in terms of etiquette and skill. I wouldn't worry too much about the exchange.
CSGibson
I don't think it can be made as long as LHO keeps 3 hearts in the endgame, and as long as RHO keeps diamonds, but you can give the opps a chance to screw it up by running the spades. No, you're not rude to ask dummy to keep quiet while you plan the play of a grand slam that will have to be made on a squeeze. On a seperate note, though, you were lucky when he left. effervesce
In practice, it will likely make when rightie keeps the guarded Q of hearts. With perfect defense, no.
hatchett
You could have made it since I see from the hand record that RHO played the ♣J at trick one. Just run on all the Spades and cash the ♦AK and you have a double squeeze.
