jtfanclub Posted April 15, 2008 Report Share Posted April 15, 2008 Your partner called in sick, but you decided to show up at the club anyways, which is a good thing, because somebody else didn't show up so you end up partnered with somebody you haven't played with before (but is a good card player). Standard American, Bergen raises outside of competition, Splinters, but no fit jumps or anything fancy. So you open 1♠, next player bids 2♦, partner says 3♣, RHO says 3♦, passed around to partner, who has a couple of choices. What would these auctions end up meaning? A.1♠ 2♦ 3♣ 3♦-P- -P- 3♠ -P- B. 1♠ 2♦ 3♣ 3♦-P- -P- -X- -P-3♥ -P- 3♠ -P- Assume the 3♥ call just shows a minimum with 5 spades. Thanks in advance. benlessard Posted April 15, 2008 Report Share Posted April 15, 2008 A is 100% Gf no doubt about it, with a limit raise and long club you have to bid 3D instead of 3C. B isnt forcing in MP & probably not forcing in imps. The opener denied extras by passing 3D, he denied a stopper, he wasnt able to pass 3Dx. Responder doenst have a full fit. I'm not used to that bid being GF, in particular I'm used to 1♠ 2♦ 3♣ P3♠ -P- being not forcing. I have no idea if NF there is SAYC or not.
